Mountain Biking

We didn't do much this weekend. Honestly, it was cold and we stayed inside. However, we did manage one day of taking the kiddos out and getting all bundled up. They really enjoyed themselves as this was their first actual mountain biking experience. Now when Chris goes, they are all going to want to go. We waited for the weather to warm up a tad but 49 degrees still isn't really my idea of warm but it wasn't too bad. They had fun and we got some pics and a little bit of video.

Over New Year's we had friends who we have known forever come into town for a visit. When we moved to Colorado back in 98, they moved to MA. We still see each other about once a year and things pick up right where they left off. Lots of fun and lots of laughter. There are ages ranging from 2 all the way to 31. It's always a good time when so many people are running around the house, there is screaming over football games, good times spent playing Apples to Apples, kids running around with air soft guns and of course eating.. lots of eating. :) In the mean time, we also did a mini photo shoot. How could we not capture our long time friends having a good time here in the lovely V of A?

Bridal session with Kelly

I really enjoy doing bridal sessions. The only thing about bridal sessions is you never get to blog about them. I can't put these shots up on the web for the chance of their lucky man spotting them. Then the first look wouldn't really be the first look. But then again, pictures can't always explain the love and the look in their grooms eyes when they see their bride for the first time. Photos can't explain the way the bride feels as she slips the dress on and absolutely feels like she is the only girl in whole wide world. Still, the idea behind ruining that first look wouldn't be good... so I don't blog. What I can do now that the wedding is over is finally show you what a bridal session looks like and how wonderfully gorgeous these brides look. We have lots of fun as we go out and shoot images of just her in her dress and enjoy the down time before the wave of excitement, time crunches, and awe appears. Here is Kelly. Her wedding was this past October in Richmond and it rained during this entire session. We had a few moments of wet free photography but other than that it was umbrellas and bags and running and dodging. She was a trooper to get that nice white dress out there.

Homeschool and Honoring

I've been awake since 3:30 with a sick child and haven't been back to sleep, so I thought I would take this "quiet" time to get a few things done on the computer. First off, for those of you who don't know that I homeschool... I do. This is my second year teaching my son and so far things are going good. I like the freedom of teaching him things he is interested in. He loves the ocean life, bugs and reptiles. The boy knows so much about those things. We also do a lot of art work. One, because that was my major and two, he also loves it. My husband and I had decided to homeschool him when he was going through his treatment with cancer. While on chemo, his immune system was so low that he couldn't go out of the home on some days. We felt that even now, we would give him the chance to not fight all the germs in a school, get his immune system going again and just see how this went. Two years later and here we are. I've recently started a homeschool blog to track good sites with great info and projects and so that others could see what kinds of cool things we do. A lot of it will be projects that I post about but I know a handful of homeschoolers and we are always looking for ideas. So, if you are interested you can go HERE !Also, As most of you know, my brother was killed on Aug. 19, 2009 while serving in Afghanistan. We are currently in the process of trying to raise funds to have a playground built in his memory here in Williamsburg. For New Years we had some long time family friends come visit. They have 5 kids.. 3 girls in college and a boy and girl still at home. The oldest one couldn't make it though. We don't usually do anything for New Years and usually bring in it by sleeping through the parties. It's different now that we have kids and aren't in college ourself anymore. It doesn't bother us. This time we spent it at my parents house however playing games like Apples to Apples, the boys playing video games and the others watching TV. My two girls were asleep long before the clock struck 12. While they were all here we decided on doing some photos. It's not often that we see them and they are more like family than friends. No matter how long we go without seeing them, we can all pick up right where we left off. Oh those good old memories! Here are two for now. I will post more once I get my actual computer back. It's getting worked on because the CD drive is broke. :( sad! This one makes me laugh!

Construction ahead

Sorry if the blog has been a bit off. I'm trying to rework and redesign the layout. It will take a bit for the layout to fall into place again. Anyhow, Just thought I would post a couple of pics of the new toy that the "big boy" got. I guess you can never be too old for toys. Chris is always looking at the kids toys and playing with Montana. That's a good thing though, because Montana just loves that attention. After the girls go to bed, Montana and Chris will play in his room for about 20 min with his new Santa gifts. It's cute.

8 years and more

It's been 8 years with the love of my life today. When you get married you want to believe that it will be a cinderella story and that you will live happily ever after, that things will go smoothly, that there will be no bumps along the road, but truthfully I've yet to meet a single couple who has had it perfect. We've had many hardships, had our share of ups and downs and yet through it all, I can honestly say I love him more today than the day we said "I do". We have had three children, spent 3 years with our son battling cancer, lost 4 family members, moved 4 times, quite a few other things and I can say I did it with him by my side. He is truly my best friend. He makes me laugh so hard at times my stomach hurts, he encourages me and supports me, he holds me while I cry, picks me up when I'm down and is always there to put a smile on my face. He's an amazing husband and works hard at what he does. He's the supporter of the family and a wonderful father to our children. Oh how I adore him. I'm blessed God gave me him and fortunate to have found my soulmate. He is the prince that I was always looking for. Happy Anniversary Babe! Here's to many more. I love you forever and always!

Merry Christmas

It's been a busy month. We've had lots going on and I haven't really been doing the photo thing. I guess I have kind of taken the month off after having caught up with all the photo editing and to top it off, my computer CD drive is down. :( I guess I should get that fixed. It's been nice not feeling like I have to do photo work but I have been busy homeschooling and doing Christmas projects with the kids. There really isn't ever any down time with 3 kids and schooling but that's life. I like it. It's also a hard time with the holidays and the loss of Paul. We all feel it even more. :( Now that Christmas is over and the New Year is about to begin I will kick the fundraising for his playground into high gear. It's something very dear to my heart and I want to get this done in his memory and in his honor. He's missed and everyone should know it! I hope you all had a lovely holiday season. It's always been one of my favorites. The birth of our Savior and the festivities is brings seems to be a mood lightener. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!!

Wreaths Across America

This past weekend we spent up in Arlington. It was the family and I that traveled up there to help place wreaths at headstones of our nations fallen heroes. They had 100,000 wreaths that were to be placed with thousands of volunteers helping to do it. This was my third year participating and it will probably be something we do every year. We like being the ones to place Paul's wreath. It's such an experience that can't be put into words. It's also nice to meet new people and catch up with old friends who we have come to know along this heavily traveled road. Afterwards, we ventured over to the White House where we were invited to view the Gold Star Family Christmas Tree. It was a gorgeous site of course and pretty neat to see the White House decorated for the holidays. Because we weren't allowed with cameras inside, after the tour we went back to Arlington to take some photos for friends. If you have not had the chance to view Arlington at Christmas time, you should really make a trip out there. There is nothing like viewing 1000's and 1000's of headstones with wreaths placed in front of them. It's peaceful and breathtaking... beautiful.

Veterans Day Events

I was asked to photograph some of the events from Veterans Day and even though this was two weeks ago, I've been meaning to put the images on the blog. Veterans Day is very important to me and I can't thank the men and women in uniform enough for all they do. My heart was heavy as I couldn't help but think of my brother all day long, not that I don't think of him all day long already. Some days just hit me so much harder than I ever expect and this happened to be one of them. I felt like and emotional mess the entire weekend. But, the events were nice and great to attend. Thank you to all of our service members.. past, present and future! We love and appreciate you!!

4 years ago today, our son, Montana was diagnosed with cancer. The details remain vivid from that single phone call that changed our entire future. We spent the next months at St. Jude finding out the details, new vocabulary, medications, and new friends. Nothing was ever the same and it will never be the same. We are forever changed by that one little word.. leukemia. Today he is a healthy and happy 6 yr old. with two little sisters. He loves swimming, art and eating. We are so thankful to everyone who has helped us along the way. Those of you ho have prayed for him and for us, who have sent cards and gifts, who have stood by us as we cried, laughed and worried. We are so thankful for a God who has allowed our son to live more years on this earth. It definitely was not easy, but we are thankful he is living. Amen.

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting this lovely couple in Colonial Williamsburg. She is going to school at William and Mary to finish her PHD and he works as an Engineer. They are one of the sweetest and kindest couples I have ever met. The weather was perfect as we walked around and scouted out locations for places to shoot. It was the leaves and the colors we were after. I do believe we were blessed with perfect timing.

What a wonderful couple I was able to meet this past weekend. They were fun, loving, and sweet. The weather was perfect, the sun was bright and their love for one another was real. They will be getting married next summer in Yorktown which I'm sure is going to be an amazing event.

70+ yrs old but brand new

This dress is 70+ years old. It was worn by my grandmother when she was 3 and was hand stitched. It comes straight from the heart of Germany during the WWII era. I love it. I just received it and knew that it would be getting in a photo session soon. I'm so thankful it fit my oldest daughter (3) and then it will get to be in another shoot with my other daughter as soon as she fits into it. However, it will NOT be worn as a daily clothing item. No way! Not the way my kiddos play in the backyard with mud and sticks and bikes. uh uh. I'm also thankful that my girls love to have their photos taken. That's the dream come true for a photographer!! :) It makes me happy to know that they let me capture them as they are and when we play dress up! Here is Kenna in the precious dress.

Andrew. Graduating Senior

What I like most about shooting my clients, is that I usually happen to know them. Andrew is no different. I used to coach him a few years back on the swim team way before I got my photography business going. He swam with my brothers and I can usually find him hanging out at their house. As a matter of fact, he accompanied us to the Zac Brown concert. I think he's starting to blend into the family. :) Andrew is such a great, kind and caring guy. I totally believe he's going to do great things when he graduates from high school this year!

OK.. well first off, I have no idea why these photos are larger. I've done the same thing as always but I will have to figure that out at a different time. It's late, I'm tired and I want to get these up. So.....I've been to numerous weddings now and have shot my fair share. All are about love and family and smiles and fun. Some, however, just truly make me laugh so hard that I wish I was part of the wedding party. Kelly and Daniel had an amazing wedding that had me laughing throughout the entire reception. There were so many great moments, so many people laughing and drinking and just way too many moments to explain through an image. They were married in Richmond with the reception following at the Belmont Country Club. Her husband, Daniel and his friend put on a show themed off of the Jabbawockeez. Too great for words. I've known Kelly for a few years now. She's the wonderful chick who cuts my hair here in the lovely land of VA. It was amazing getting to be a part of their special day. Congrats to the both of you. It was an amazing time!!

a cold night

We had been wanting to take the kiddos camping for months on end and it just never quite worked out like we had planned. So this past weekend we decided last minute to pack the car and the kids and head to Virginia Beach for a night of roasting marshmallows and tent sleeping. They loved it, we froze, but all in all it was fun. The kids loved the pillow jump and the playgrounds. The temp got down to about 48 degrees and it rained for about 30 minutes. It was during that time that Chris and I were trying to decide what to do. Should we pack it up and head to our warm beds or should be rough it and stay the night. We stayed the night and were glad we did. Definitely a trip to write in the books.

The time has come to announce that my twin brothers are seniors. It's crazy. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was volunteering at their elementary school. They have grown so much and aren't really my "little" brothers anymore. They are taller than I am and have turned into young men. I love them. They make me laugh at the stupidest things and I'm so proud to tell others that they are my lovely brothers. Their personalities are polar opposites and yet they can still read each others minds. They laugh at things before the other can even finish what he has to say. What can I say... they are twins. It's been that way since birth. I was 14 when they were born. I feel in some small way I helped raise them, even though I give all the credit to my parents. People asked me back then if they were mine and that hasn't stopped even now. As a matter of fact, just last week someone asked Chris and I how old our boys were. haha. I hope I don't look that old. They both have a love for swimming and swim competitively. I've coached them, cheered for them and supported them. They are my brothers, they are my family and I love them to pieces.

constant reminder

It was two years ago that the worst news of my life came along with some of the best. My brother was killed on Aug. 19, 2009 and then 9 days later I gave birth to our sweet little girl named Myla. She was born on Aug. 28, 2009 on the same day that my family was at Ft. Eustis attending Paul's memorial service. So many mixed emotions. How could I even bring a smile to my face when all I wanted to do was cry. My brother was just home two weeks priar, making fun of how big my stomach was and how he couldn't wait to see this little baby. He never got that chance. She will never get to know her amazing uncle. Myla had been a blessing and continues to be one every single day. Her name means "merciful" which is perfect for this sweet little girl. She is laid back, kind, sweet, loving and compassionate. Even at her young age she worries for others. She runs to her sister when she is hurt, she asks if she is OK, she is loving. She's everything we needed during this time in our life.

For her first photo shoot I used Paul's baby quilt. I then decided that every year after, I would capture her growth with a piece of us that is missing and with a piece that reminds us of a hero. Paul's quilt is cherished in this house and one day Myla will learn about a wonderful uncle who is waiting on her in heaven. Happy Birthday Myla even though it's a tad late.

whirl wind trip

Vacation time. I loved it, we had a good time and I want to go back! This trip couldn't have gone any better, smoothly, or more relaxed. Yes, we went to Disney World but no we did not run around like banshee warriors. We took our time, strolled, ate lots of food, swam, got some sun, played in the pool and laughed lots. The kids had fun, we had fun and basically that's all that matters in the end. We went down and met up with my parents and the boys. We all stayed at the All Star Resort, did two water parks and three theme parks. Montana was all about the lizards, bugs, ducks and of course the sting rays he swam with. Myla was into walking all alone and eating french fries, which she calls chicken. Makenna was into riding "Nemo" and "Three Caballeros" over and over again. Chris and I were content just walking and relaxing. It was a blast and a much needed trip after a year of no vacation and Chris being gone for 5 months.

We also happened to be at the Animal Kingdom and Epcot for 9/11. I was proud to see many American's sporting their red, white and blue, the flags at half mass, and the national anthem played... all at Disney World. It made me happy and it made me think of my brother and what he gave so that we can enjoy our vacations and all the little things that make us proud Americans. Man I miss him! Never Forgotten!

Honoring

My brother's birthday was on the 19th. That would make it this past Monday and only two days ago. We went to Arlington National Cemetery very early in the morning. We always leave at the crack of dawn in order to make it there by 8 am. 9 am starts the funerals and it's hard for us to be around during that time. Of course, it brings back so many memories. We spent a couple of hours there this time, met with a couple who I've come to know pretty good after the death of my brother via facebook and were honored with two prints from them. Mark is the founder of God Bless the Troops. If you haven't checked out the prints and paintings they have, be sure to jump over to their site and view the awesome work that is online. His niece did a painting of my brother which is just out of this world. It brought everyone to tears. She is a stunning artist and we are forever grateful. Mark presented us siblings with a print/painting titled "America's Valor". It too is just beyond words. I have found a spot to hang it, which will be viewed by everyone who walks through the door. It has become one of my most cherished pieces of "Paul" gifts that I have received over the past two years. It's a very moving piece. This painting says so much and I just love looking at it. Oh and by the way, my little "Christmas" tree is still up because it is now more of a memorial tree in honor of my brother. It's filled with ornaments that have something to do with him.. military, childhood, etc. It has stayed up year round so that I can view it daily and add ornaments as I find them.

Thank you so much Mark and Amy for everything you guys did for us. We are honored by all that you have done, are doing and will continue to do to remember our fallen heroes. It was wonderful getting to meet you both and especially at such a special location.

26 in Heaven

I never thought that my life would revolve around spending a birthday at Arlington National Cemetery. Never in a million years did I think that I wouldn't see my brother here on this earth again either. Lots of nevers are said, but the reality of it is.. that it is. This is my life. We go to Arlington for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, Memorial Day and many other days along the way. It makes us feel closer to the person that we lost. It's a continual grieving process. It doesn't get easier, the crying doesn't stop, the reality doesn't fade and time hasn't healed anything. It still feels like yesterday. As a matter of fact, I think it will always feel like yesterday. We are a close family and his loss is felt heavily by each and every one of us. Today Paul would be 26. He is 26.. just not on earth. He is in Heaven waiting for us. He is partying it up with each and every hero we have lost. He is missed. He is loved and he will NEVER be forgotten, EVER! Happy Birthday to my amazing, strong, loving, caring and hilarious brother. I miss you so much!!

These photos were taken during the last time we saw him. He was home on his R&R from Afghanistan. They are priceless memories and explain just how much of a fun person he was. See you on the other side Paul. My heart is forever broken.

Two weekends ago we were battling a hurricane. We lost power for close to 8 days. Threw out food, ate by candlelight, charged phones and IPODS in the car, checked email at Panera and celebrated sweet little Myla's birthday without light. After everything we've been through and know what others go through, in the gist of things, it really isn't much. I mean, I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to a HOT shower after a week... cause boy was I. But, we were all OK and we still had our house. Amen.

Well, Myla, my baby girl is 2. She has been a blessing to us. She came into our life when everything was so dark. No one wanted to smile and no one wanted to laugh. Yet here I was with this new infant that brought me joy. She truly was the light for me when all I wanted to do was die myself. Born 9 days after receiving the worst news of my life, Myla Paul came to us. She's full of giggles and smiles. She jumps and she skips. Such a sweet thing then and such a sweet thing still. We love you sweetie pie.

Today marks two years from the day that our world was shattered. To others it’s just another day. Most have forgotten and most have gone on without the pain we have had to carry. That’s to be expected. It wasn’t their loss, it was ours and it’s been a loss that has devastated our family. As I sat at the dinner table about to eat a sandwich, while I was 9 months pregnant, I received one single phone call… a phone call that dropped me to my kness. The pain that ensued that night has never been felt before. My fun loving, hilarious, caring, strong and amazing brother…GONE! How could that have happened was all I asked.

The best way to describe our life now is through shattered glass. When someone drops a glass, the pieces go every which way. You try to find every little piece and then you try as hard as you can to put them all back in the right spot. However, no matter what you do, it will never be what it was before. There are cracks and there are places missing glass. The glass now shows the affects of being broken. That is our family. We will never be whole again. We are lost, we are hurting, we still cry, and yet we have to somehow manage to live a daily life without someone who truly meant the world to us in it. How? How do you that? Honor. It’s my only answer. I promised to honor my brother that day he was taken from us. He gave his life for our freedom and it’s not something to be taken lightly. When he woke up that Wed., he didn’t plan on going to be with Jesus. However, the Lord had other plans. We all know that at any given moment our time on this earth could end. As much as I know he wasn’t ready to go, I know he knew where he was going. It brings me much comfort in knowing that. It also helps me to know that I know I will one day see him again. I too know where I am going and when that day comes I will welcome it with open arms and be reunited with my adorable brother, whom I miss more than can be described with words. Until then, My family and I will continue to HONOR him. It is not easy ,but we do it with PRIDE. Pride for him and pride for the all the men and women who have given their lives so that we may remain the land of the FREE!

Meet Grace

Well, my internet has been down for the past week and its been killing me! Finally, it's back up today and I'm trying to get caught up on everything. It's amazing what you can get behind on without the world of cyber space. Anyways, last weekend I met up with Grace down in Norfolk and we shot her senior photos. What an amazing girl she is. I love getting to meet and talk with the seniors I shoot because they all have so many different interests. She's into the boating world and hoping to get on a sail team in college. Where do I even begin? I have so many photos that I want share that I have no idea where to even start. This wedding was amazing! It was the longest I ever worked in one day for a wedding but it was so worth it. Allison and Chris were married down in Virginia Beach on a perfect day. It rained for a bit but it wasn't anything we couldn't handle. It was actually good shooting weather. Just incase anyone didn't know.. they are the cutest and sweetest couple ever! Allison truly was gorgeous and was every bit of what a little girl wants to look like on her wedding day. She was stunning. Chris wasn't so bad either. :) They partied into the night with lots of friends and family. The band was A-mazing and the guests had such a good time. You'll be able to tell that from the photos. And on a side note.. the wedding had everything to do with her being a Tennessee girl and him having gone to Bama! :) Thank you guys so much for allowing me to be apart of your special day. I pray you are having a wonderful time on your honeymoon and that you are blessed for many years ahead! Enjoy!

"Happy" 3 yr Anniversary.

It's not very happy. Actually it's not happy at all, but it is their anniversary and I want to take the time to recognize that. Paul and his wife would have been married 3 years today. But instead, he is in heaven and she is still here on earth. They are separated by many years, by many stories, by the what would be laughters and the future of what would have beens. No matter the distance though, she knows she will see him again. Much like the rest of the family. It's just a matter of "time".

Their love was real. They were married for one year and we were blessed to have him home for his R&R right about that time. He left to go back to Afghanistan on the 6th so they celebrated a few days early . They were a couple of laughter and joy. He was a goober that made everyone crack up. He was always doing something and even sometimes it was nothing, but we all laughed. Our family is big. We are loud and there is alot going on. She fit right in. They both had a love of the outdoors. So much so that when we were shopping for wedding gifts for Paul and Candice he said they wanted a camo bedroom. I just laughed. The funny part was... she approved. Their love truly was uniquely theirs and it was... beautiful. He is missed and he will never go unloved.

Life is simply about the little things. I've learned this all to well. Treasure the small things, enjoy the simple moments, and celebrate each and every day. My husband came home with flowers the other day. He's still in AIT and won't be done until the end of Aug. Having him visit with us for brief moments over some weekends is amazing. The kids and I are missing him, but we are thankful to have him close by.

My brother, Paul, loved the Chicken Fried song by Zac Brown. That song, little did we know would have so much more meaning than we ever thought possible. It was his ring tone and now it's the ring tone to some of my other siblings. The lyrics speak so much truth. I can't listen to it and not think of him... it is him. He's missed in every possible way. The next few months are going to be so hard. It marks many milestones. We're making it through the days and it's not because we want to. Our friends came to visit us this week and we couldn't have been more excited. Our friendship with them has grown so much over the last year and half. Unfortunately, we wouldn't like to have become friends the way we did but we are blessed to have them in our lives. My good friend lost her husband 4 months before I lost my brother. She too is a Gold Star Family Member as well as her kids. We go to Arlington together, we meet up, travel, laugh, cry, tell stories and share our loss. I'm very fortunate to have met someone who understands "it". This trip was about having fun. We went to Virginia Beach, the Aquarium, Yankee Candle, the pool, Ft. Eustis, and lots of places to eat! It was jam packed but so worth the trips and driving. The kids played and we chatted. Of course we could have done without the 115 degree weather, but never the less, it was a good time! We are missing them already.

It was about time I did an actual shoot with the kids. It's been awhile and I kept putting it off. All 3 of them have birthdays this summer and I've been meaning to get to it but life happens, summer happens and things just get tossed to the side. So, I packed the kids in the car at 8:30 in the morning and went looking for a spot. Found one, took photos and then headed to pick Chris up for the day. We all had a great time this weekend and I was happy with the photos. :) Oh, and I think I found the oldest playground in Williamsburg. Didn't think things like this existed anymore.

It was one year ago that Montana took his last dose of chemo. That last push into his port and it was one year ago that we celebrated with a NO MO CHEMO party! What a grand ole day that was. He's been through so much and we have celebrated over many things but that has been by far our biggest accomplishment with him. Knowing that he is cancer free is a blessing and we thank God for it. Last week, he and I went back to St. Jude for his one year check up. It's such an amazing feeling to walk back into that hospital. So many memories, so many tears, and so many friends. People think that we wouldn't want to ever go back but it's so far from the truth. We love to be there. They helped saved our child and we are forever grateful. We have formed bonds with other patients and families that we never imagined we would. They became our family and we have stayed in touch with so many of them. Being back there kind of feels like being home. After spending three years at place other than your than your true home and hanging out with friends going through the same thing.. it eventually becomes home.

Well, Montana is doing great!! He's growing, learning and thriving. He's on a swim team, going into the first grade, has learned to ride a bike and his speech has come so far. We are so proud of him and all he has accomplished since being diagnosed. In the beginning he regressed but has now caught up to other kids his age. We are thankful! However, please keep all the children who are still battling in your prayers. It's so heartbreaking to walk in there and see so many children fighting for their lives. They are hopeful and they are fighters. PRAY, we are!!!

I'm thrilled. Montana swam in his very first swim meet on Monday. I honestly didn't know if that day would ever come. He's been through so much and when he was born I thought he would be swimming by the age of 3. I guess my plans don't always work out. Instead, he was in the hospital and fighting for his life because of an evil thing called cancer. I hate it. I still hate it but I'm blessed that he is here with us right now. In the end, my attitude was and still is, "who cares if he does things later, not at all, or a little slower. He's here and that's all that matters." I've been a swimmer my entire childhood, swam in college, coached for 6 years after and still get to train from time to time. It's just amazing to see my little guy starting the same thing that I had the biggest passion for. As long as he can swim well it doesn't matter to me where he goes with it, but it would be great to see him get competitive.

Officially a SOLDIER

It's official... Chris is now a soldier in the U.S Army and we are so very proud of him. After 10 weeks, many letters, and a handful of phone calls, we were able to go see him graduate and spend 4 days with him here in VA. It was the best 4 days of our life. The kids and I all had an amazing time and we just could not get enough of him. Well, now it's off to AIT and 10 weeks later we will do the same thing. Congrats, Chris! We love you!!!

Last weekend I shot an engagement session for Chris and Allison. They will be getting married in August and I can not wait to see what their big day holds. These two make quite the adorable couple. I happen to actually know Chris' sister from way back when. Seems like that anyway. :) Well, I met the two of them down in Virginia Beach and I just tried to capture how truly sweet they are!! LOVE IT and LOVE THEM!!

Memorial Day Weekend Wedding

Last Saturday I shot a wedding in Norfolk at the Botanical Gardens. It was such a gorgeous location and the weather was perfect. It had been raining on my way down so we were praying it would go away by the time ceremony started.... it did! Kristin and Brandon make the perfect couple. So sweet together I tell ya. Her son, Ryan, walked her down the aisle which was the cutest thing ever. I'll let you see the photos... ADORABLE!! Congrats to Kristin and Brandon and may you have a blessed future!!

A Richmond Honoring

It's the perfect start to a Memorial Day weekend honoring Paul. Yesterday we were in Richmond to help honor him and all those who have given their lives from the state of Virginia for our freedom. It was super hot as we sat in front of the capital building and they read the names of our American Heroes. They played Taps, they sang, we prayed and then they had a fly over. As I've said before, it doesn't get old honoring him. He truly deserves each and every thing we Americans do to honor and remember. Oh and did I mention that it was so hot while we stood out there? My brother, one of the twins, decided to make it a memorable Dumont production and passed out just as the Governor was about to give his speech. The medic came, they took him away, and gave him an IV. We know Paul was laughing about that. He would have been proud!

Army Old Guard

One of our friends, John Parks, is part of the Army Old Guard. He was playing in Colonial Williamsburg on Saturday and since we did the 8k that morning we decided to stay to watch and support him. His brother is also apart of the Old Guard with him and it's no easy feat by the way to get into this. It's such a neat thing to see. If you live anywhere near here you should really come out and watch them. A-Mazing!! Congrats John on your performance and on becoming part of the United States Army!!

"That" time.

We are coming upon "THAT" time. The time that leads from Memorial Weekend into his 2 year anniversary, followed by the 2 mark and then ends with his birthday. A time that is hard on all of us. After Memorial weekend we have a gap before the others all fall back to back. These two time frames are "his" days. I like to do nothing else but honor him, even though I try and do this every single day. He deserves it and it's my honor to do so.

Memorial Day Weekend is a little different now. Ok, I take that back. It's ALOT different. It used to be the kick off to summer. The schools let out and vacations started. We were once there, like so many families in America. NOW, not so much. It has a whole new meaning and I wish I would have been aware of this sooner but I wasn't. The point is that now I do and it's not the same anymore. No happy kick off to the summer going on here. Rather, it's looked upon as a time that numerous Gold Star Families and I are doing the same thing. We are honoring those who have been killed in war. Memorial Weekend is now Paul's weekend and I look forward to it. It means that the entire nation is remembering. I know that not everyone is actually thinking about those who have been killed, but there are so many who are. And even if its just for one day, it means that it's not just my family and I mourning his loss. Thousands upon thousands will be at Arlington on Memorial Day. It's a zoo I tell ya, but it's so worth it. To see all these people honoring and remembering makes me so happy. To know that we are all there for the same reason. To NEVER FORGET! These were all men and women with families and stories. They had lives, they had jobs, they had kids, wives and husbands. No one ever wants their loved one to be forgotten and it feels so good to know that for just a day the nation is recognizing all of them. I love that part of it.

I mourn Paul's loss each and every day. It will be two years on Aug. 19. Two whole years without my brother in my life. How can that be? How could I have made it without him and how am I making it still? He played such an important role in our family. He was the comedian and we thrived off of that. He was the glue that bonded the older children to the younger ones. His jokes had us rolling on the floor with laughter. He was never serious and always lit up the room with his smile. Everyone knew that when Paul came over it was ALL over... for real! Our family is different. Growing up, it was just our family. No cousins coming over, no grandparents stopping by and no aunts and uncles. It was always US. Our "little" family of 6 that went to 8 and then finally to 9. It was our norm. Each one of us played some kind of part in the Dumont household. We feel his void at every BBQ, family gathering, and with each and every holiday. We miss it and we miss him. Not a day goes by that I'm not thinking about him. And I'm not saying that a thought just goes through my head. I'm saying that I think of him for minutes on end, numerous times throughout the day. It's impacted my life and it's changed who I am and who I have become. I'm not the same person nor will I ever be. At times it really is the promise of the Lord that gets me through. That promise of knowing that I will be reunited with him. It's a day that I eventually look forward to and will welcome with open arms. I know that he is safe, happy and in the arms of our Savior. It doesn't take away my pain or the suffering I am feeling, but it does make it a tad bit easier knowing that when this life is over I'll spend an eternity with him.

So on this Memorial Day remember those who have given their lives for our freedom, the families they left behind and the blessings we have by living in this country. For we are the land of the FREE only because of those who were and are BRAVE!!

I have a daughter who loves to swing. She could swing all day long if I pushed her. But, I don't feel like doing that nor do I have the time. However, I push her on the swings about every single day. I don't know what it is. Maybe the wind in her hair or the breeze on her toes. It could also be that nauseous feeling you get after about 5 min of swinging high. I'm done after that feeling. I guess it doesn't seem to bother her. She even loves the big swings at Busch Gardens. This girl is nuts but it's the simple things she loves that make me adore her. Little Miss Kenna Beans.

My kids aren't angels and as a matter of fact they are far from that. However, they are my kids and I love them. I have my days of utter frustration, when they cut each others hair, dump sugar all over the floor, call 911 ( on accident) and the list could go on. They have their good moments too. The ones that just make me die of laughter, the "I love you's", the hugs and kisses, and getting along. They can put a smile on my face just as fast as they can get me to yell at them. They are spontaneous, lovable, fun, silly, hyper, and crazy. Not sure where that comes from! I'm proud they are my children and I'm honored to be their mother. My life is complete with them. All I ever wanted was to have children and a family. Well, now I have a fantastic husband and three adorable kids who are the light of my life. I love em to pieces... even on the bad days.

The other day I took them out to Yorktown and took a few pics. Nothing fancy. Just a moment of our lives. My sister and her husband met us since it's in their neck of the woods. We had fun. We froze for a few minutes even though you can't tell too much.

Today is Montana's birthday. He is a happy, healthy 6 year old boy whom we love and adore. He's an amazing brother to his two sisters, admires his daddy, and loves being around his family. In 6 years of life, so far, he has taught us strength and what it truly means. He has shown us how to hope and how to count on nothing but our faith alone. The little guy has been through more than most go through in 30 years of life. He's a fighter and he's a winner. I'm so proud to have him as my son. He's my love bug and wants nothing more than to snuggle up next to me at night and watch a movie. He's full of laughter and he giggles at the tiny things. Chris and I feel so blessed to have him in our lives. We are better parents because of him and all that he has gone through. We don't worry about the tiny things and I'm sure we let more slide off of our backs than we should. But he is here, and he is thriving. He is running, climbing, riding bikes, swimming and enjoying the life that God blessed him with. He's such an amazing kid and he has a world ahead of him to show that to. We love you Montana! Nashville Wedding

Last weekend I flew out to Nashville to shoot the wedding of Mary and Ben. Such a great and amazing couple. Their wedding happened to fall on a rather cold and stormy weekend but that didn't interfere with the day filled of nothing but romance. The day of the wedding had no rain and we were blessed with that because the night before was a torrential down pour. Mary looked gorgeous in her dress and was so relaxed. She was probably the most laid back bride I've ever had to shoot. It makes things so easy when the bride says, "just do your thing." Love it!! Ben wasn't looking so bad himself and the smile on his face as she walked down the isle..priceless. It's why I love what I do, getting to capture the moments in life that truly matter. Congrats to both of you Mary and Ben and may the Lord bless you in the years ahead.

A breath of fresh air

This past week my mom and I took the kids to Florida for a few days. We all needed it. So much has been going on and I feel like I was going crazy. The mental break was a huge relief in my hectic world. We did two water parks and a day at the Magic Kingdom. Florida is beginning to feel like a second home in all honesty. That's fine with me though, I love it there. The sun, sand and water are perfect. The kids enjoyed their time away from the house. Swimming is their favorite past time anyway so what's not to love, right? It's a long drive down there but so worth it. I was definitely not ready to come back. I could have spent another day at Typhoon Lagoon swimming with sharks and surfing in the 6ft waves.... so nice! But, here we are, back in our home and getting into the daily grind of everyday life. Life just isn't the same anymore. So much has changed and my view of it will never be what it was before... however, I'm grateful for all that I have.

Kelly and Daniel are awesome. They are unlike any couple I've ever really shot. They have their own unique qualities and are just so fun to be around. I've known Kelly for a little while. Meet the amazing hairstylist who cuts my hair here in the lovely V of A. Check her out here if you live in the Richmond, Va area. She does good work! Ok, so back to the photo shoot. They came down to Williamsburg and we did some photos in Colonial as well as the pottery area. There really isn't much left of the pottery but we managed. They truly are sweet and fun and I'm looking forward to shooting their big day!!

I love meeting the bride and groom during the engagement session. It lets me know what kind of couple they are and how they like to get their photos done. It's a time of loosening up and getting acquainted. This weekend I was so happy to finally meet Kristin, her son and Brandon. They are just such a sweet couple and her son is adorable. I met them all at Colonial Williamsburg in the late morning. It's the perfect time to go there without there being too many people. This weekend was just perfect for shooting outside as well. We couldn't have asked for a better day with more perfect weather. I look forward to shooting their big day in May!!

We decided to take the kids to build a bear. To be honest, they haven't really ever been. I mean we walk around that store all the time but I haven't let them make a bear before. I think Montana has been once but other than that.. this was their special treat. They were going crazy. My pocket book wasn't allowing for their craziness. haha. That place gets so expensive but we wanted to make sure they each had a special bear that they picked all by themselves and that Chris' voice was in it. It's theirs to sleep with and carry around. It was fun to watch them pick out outfits, only a shirt. :) Montana picked the Army Helmet and shorts so we allowed that. Myla didn't want anything and Kenna.. Well, that girl is just nuts. We had a good time and then we all went to grab a bite to eat.

More photos from Springfield, Missouri. The last time we had family photos taken was when we visited Springfield the previous year. It's hard doing photos of everyone when you are the one taking the photos. Well, it just wasn't going to happen.. to have the photographers I know do the photo taking. So, I had my mother in-law help a little. Not so bad I think. I'm happy just having a decent image to hang in our little lovely house. Thanks Lynn. :)

Soldier Up

Major changes are coming our way. Life as we know it is going to alter yet again. My husband has enlisted into the U.S Army and will become a great soldier among so many for our country. We couldn't be more proud of him. This has been going on for the past year and the time has come upon us to put it out there for all to know. Most people are excited and proud of him and of us but there are some who think we are crazy. Crazy, that he would do such a thing when we are at a time of war and after the loss of my brother, SGT Paul E Dumont Jr. Losing my brother doesn't change a thing though. We don't hate the military. If anything, it has given us a greater love for our country and of the men and women who serve each and every day. They are the true heroes and deserve so much more recognition than they receive. I truly believe Chris will make a great soldier. He's been an amazing husband and such a wonderful father to our three kids. He's ready for a change and we are ready to support him each and every step of the way. We know that the Lord has great plans for him and for us. We both feel that this is the route he is supposed to go. Yes, things can be a bit nerve wrecking, but then again what in life ever isn't? We've already battled some of our biggest wars right here. If he's ready and willing, then so am I. I've never seen him work so hard towards something as he has been doing in the past few months. He told me a verse that he liked a couple of weeks ago. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phil 4:13. It's what helped him deal with our son while he battled cancer and it's what will help him in the months ahead. As he thinks of that verse, I will too. It won't be easy but we're in this together. We are a family and we are strong. We love you Chris and we couldn't be more proud! And, as my brother would say... "It's time to Soldier Up!"

Finally. A new blog design. I had been wanting to change it up a bit and finally got around to doing so. If you want to see the older posts please be sure to go HERE. It's everything from the past 3.5 years. But from now on... it will all be right here!

On another note. The weather today was gorgeous. My kids have been sick as well as I. It hasn't been fun let me tell you. I figured the fresh air could help everyone out so I put their shoes on them and sent them out the door. It was a good thing to do I think. Just the thing to spice up the past two weeks of doing nothing but watching TV and laying around. Oh, and Makenna loves to swing.
